How To Clean Your Jewelry Safely

How To Clean Your Jewelry Safely

A common myth is that toothpaste is a good way to clean your jewelry. This is actually false. Toothpaste is abrasive and can actually scratch and damage your jewelry over time.

We recommend a few ways to clean your jewelry at home and safely.

Use a soft bristle brush, hot water, and dish soap

This is the easiest way and the safest. Dish soap is great for getting off body oils, dirt, and junk that can sometimes clump up on your diamond or in between prongs of your jewelry.

Follow these easy steps at home:

1. Make sure to block the sink drain so that you do not drop your jewelry down the drain.

2. Scrub your jewelry with hot water and your tooth brush with a squirt of dish soap.

3. Rinse with hot water.

4. Dry with a clean cloth, preferably a microfiber cloth.

Mr. Clean solution

Here in our office we use Mr. Clean in our ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. It is a safe product that gently cleans off scum and dirt off your jewelry. We gently scrub the dirt with a bristle brush and throw it in our ultrasonic cleaner. Unfortunately, not everyone has an ultrasonic cleaner at home. Instead you can scrub some Mr. Clean on your jewelry with a soft bristle brush and rinse with warm water. Make sure to dry it with a clean cloth, preferably a microfiber cloth.

Please note, this method will not work with certains Gemstones such as Emeralds.

*For gemstones that are not diamonds, please call our office for proper care.
